In the early 1970s, fiber optics was first developed and have revolutionized the telecommunications industry. Its have played a major role in the advent of the Information Age era. Because of its advantages over electrical transmission, optical fibers have largely replaced copper wire communications in core networks in the Digital age. Optical fibers are commonly used in fiber-optic communication that allows for the transmission of digital data over longer distances and at greater information rates than other wired and wireless communication types. They are also used to form sensors and for a variety of other applications.
